New laptop, new house, new everything
So I know I haven't updated for ages and so a lot of people have shouted at me, so now I will do it. Since finishing work at the end of August, I went home for a week and then moved my stuff up tp the new house in Oxford. The house is great and we are all really happy with it even if we are paying a lot of rent. Mostly I have just been sorting out house stuff and I popped back home for a few days to catch the Dixie Chicks in concert which was absolutly amazing. I'm now in Oxford permanently but I'm going on holiday for a week to Rome on Friday (major yayness). To fully round off my huge spending spree I have also invested in a new laptop (which was desperatly needed). It's a toshiba and its reeally shiny (as Chris would say), I'm in love with it already :)

    Football, Karaoke and London baby!!
On Thursday I was invited by Kim in my lab to play football with the JI team. It was just a practice but we played a match and since I'be never played before I was pretty crap! It was someone on the teams birthday so afterwards we went to a Karaoke bar in Norwich. It was really fun and eventhough I said I wouldn't sing tequilla can get me to do most things (as many of you well know!!) and so I sang abba's "dancing queen" with 5 others.
The following morning (I had Friday off work) I got up and went into Norwich to catch a train to London. I was delayed, but not too seriously, and arrived at Liverpool Street at 12.20. After pottering around Spittlefields market for an hour I headed down to Picadilly to meet James. We grabbed a sandwich and sat in a lovely park to eat it and chat. Next we got the tube to Canary Wharf and got the DLR (yay.. never been on the DLR before!)to Greenwich. We walked to the old Naval college and went to the Elizabeth I exhibition they have on there. It was really good, I loved seeing the paintings and potraits so close up having only ever seen them on TV before. We finished there at about 5 and went to Victoria to meet Brian, he's working there at the moment.
For dinner we went to Belgo in Covent Garden (my favorite) and then onto a pub to have a drink with Brian before he left to head home at about 8.30. James and I then went to Soho and James took me to a great cocktail bar in Old Compton street called Lab. The drinks were lovely and well worth the price (mine was £6, a mango collins). After this we headed back to James in Croydon and made our own cocktails (the cheaper option, though still lovely!) and sat to chat for a couple of hours.
On saturday morning we met Brian again at Euston and went up to Camden town to the Market. I've never been to Camden market but it was great and I went a bit mad and dragged poor James and Brian around a number of piercing stalls before buying the gecko I wanted for my belly button. I alos bought a new watch, a vest that says London (to look like a tourist and embarrass James!) and a few presents for people. We got the tube back to Euston and had lunch near the British Museum. Afterwards James and I went to the mUseum to look at the Asian art stuff and "London in 1753" whilst Brian went to Covent Garden for a few things he was after. We met back up with him in Hyde park later and had an ice cream and chatted for an hour or two before we went our separate ways - Brain back home and James and I to Croydon. After showering and changing we went into Croydon and had a wonderful Italian meal and then onto a bar where we met James (beer-monster of Somerville fame!!!) and had a drink with him before he had to leave. We then went to a bar called the Black Sheep whioch had aa great range of drinks and James prepared me for the initiation (next term!) by giving me a B52 and a drabui (sorry James I can't spell it!!). i also tried something called an apple sourz which was very nice. We danced for a while and left feeling only slightly tipsey (honest!! The buildings weren't swaying I promise!).
On sunday feeling just a little hung over we went to see the sights and sounds of Croydon by day and then got the train to London. We went back to Spittlefields market which was bursting with people and shared some Indonesian noodles for lunch. We walked around Whitechapel for awhile and found a street market but hen went back to Liverpool street. The heat meant that all the trains were speed restricted so my train was 4o minutes late and then took 3 and a half hours to do and hour and 50 minutes journey. I think our speed varied only between 15 and 30 mph all the way between London and Colchester! But I made it back eventually and it was worth it because I had a wonderful weekend. So today I back to work so I guess I'd better go and do something constructive!! :)

    Tabland Photos
I've just noticed that Brian has put up some photos from our "Expedition to Tabland" as he calls it.. if anyone wants to check out the fun we had in Cambridge take a look at http://bmtt.shake.org.
Other than that not much else has been going on, just working. Next weekend I'm going to London to stay with James and to see Brian as well.

    Cambridge
I arrived in Cambridge by train supposedly to meet Hannah and James at the station.... they were at the station but not the one I was at.. typical! after some very fast driving from James they finally managed to come and pick me up and we headed off to find Richard's house. We got well and truly lost even though Hannah lives here and ended up in a pub to eat, we rang Richard and Laura who came down and met us for a drink. I spent the night at Hannah's HUGE house in a state of shock at its palatial size.
On saturday we picked up Valerie from the station (the right one this time) and met the others in the centre. After sandwichs for lunch we attempted to get a punt, however on a sunny touristy day in Cambridge this was just not happening. Valerie, Brian and I abandoned the plan and went off to get ourselves lost and fully immersed in Cambridge while the others continued in the quest for a punt (They suceeded eventually but I'm quite glad we didn't wait anyway). The three of us managed to sneak into St. Johns college without paying which was cool and we managed to see the Cambridge Bridge of Sighs. We all met back up for dinner at a Tex-Mex place which was really nice and then went on to the cinema to see Charlies Angels 2 (which was actually not that bad and quite funny, and of course with the lovely Drew Barrymore so I was happy). I think this experience will be marked permantly in everyones minds by Hannah putting on suncream in the cinema (because of course we all know how dangerous the UV light levels in a cinema can be!!).
Sarah, Valerie and I all slept on Hannahs floor that night and had a nice girlie sleep over type thing. On Sunday morning we went off to Waitrose to buy picnic supplies and after meeting the others in James' car went in convoy to Audley End house where once again we snuck in for free (round the back!). We had a lovely picnic complete with rounders playing and everything and the house was lovely. Once again ion convoy we went back to Cambridge station so that Brian and I could get trains and once again we all had to say goodbye... its always at a train station!

    An Arabidopsis and Starch Story
So earning a living hasn't been too bad so far. Its a bit boring and repetitive but hey I expected that! My supervisor has gone on holiday and given me loads of work for while she is away but hopefully it will be an interesting project. I'm really starting to loath cereals though, I think that happens after you've counted, weighed and starch prepped over 100 bags of oats and maize. The real fun of wheat is still to come!
Worked in the bar last night (the company I work for has a recreation centre with a bar and stuff), this consisted of serving a few drinks and then sitting on my arse for 4 hours, got paid £25 for the pleasure though... yay drinking money for my weekend in Cambridge :)
Now I have to go and check on my small Arabidopsis plants (to see if they've done what their supposed to i.e. grown!) before doing some real work (measuring the size and shape of starch granules with a clever laser thingy) and then I'm buggering off to Cambridge around 4.30...

    Norwich
So I'm in Norwich working, this is the first time I've been able to get at the internet on free reign long enough to update LJ since I got here. The work is going ok though. I have 3 projects, 2 starchy ones and a flowery one! Anyway better go before people start flocking into the lab. Everyone keep in touch cos I'm getting bored down here. See you all soon.

    A pink wig
Keble ball last night was great though I drank way too much (again). The alcohol was free though so who can blame me? Felt quite rough this morning it has to be said and I think I'm going to need this week to dry out my liver! I managed to acquire a pink wig at some point during the evening and so it is officially rated as a sucessful ball!
I'm at home now which is kinda wierd but I'm not here long so I guess I should enjoy it whilst I can.

    Punch-up, London and Schools Dinner
Oh dear I have to stop drinking, feeling quite rough this morning after the Biological sciences schools dinner in Balliol last night at which there was free alcohol (and that was before moving on to buying my own tequilla and vodka). I can happily say that for once I was less drunk than Hannah though since I actully had to put her to bed last night, James was upset that he missed the one time she was completely pissed.
Chris and Krystyna came round on Wednesday night to see my new room and Chris wandered off to find Briony and Brian with Krys and I opting for the drinking route and heading to the Turf. We eventually made it to Maxwell's for cocktails and Nachos and a later, little unsteady on my feet, went back to Balliol to catch the end of the film being watched in Brians room by Chris, Briony, Brian, Jen, Harpreet and Hannah. At about 1 ( I think, not sure) I walked Jen, Chris and Krystyna to the front gate and some how (probably my own fault) managed to get into a minor punch-up with Krystyna, remind me not to do that again in a hurry!! I retreated to bed pretty much unscathed though.
Yesterday morning I set off for London with Hannah and Briony. We went to the Globe theatre for a tour and met my mum who was there taking a school trip. After the tour we went over to the Tate Modern and I was well excited to learn that they had Dali stuff there and promotely went to gaze at it in wonderment. We had lunch in China town and Bri and I scared Hannah agai by taking her to Ork's nest and Forbidden Planet. We came back on the Oxford tube at about 5 but trafiic was bad so we didn't get back till 7. We headed straight to exam schools to try and get our prelims results but the buggers had taken the board away, that is now my major job for today apart from meeting the Historians out of their last exam.
After getting back to college at 7.30 when we should have been at pre-dinner drinks in the fellows garden we rushed around helping Hannah's mum move her stuff to their car and then throwing on some clothes to look vaguely passable for schools dinner. As usual the first year Biochemists were thus hideous late for dinner! Myles din't mind but did make us sit next to him as a punishment! The rest is just a story of lots of alcohol and painful shoes but I finally ended up in the Quad with Hannah, Anna, Sarah and Marzena playing "I have never". Anna wandered off at some point to go home as she is no longer in college and another bottle of wine later we finally dispersed and helped Hannah to her bed. I'm quite pleased that even in that state I still remembered to clean my piercing out before going to bed!

    Moving and Momentos
Just moved to a new room leaving my lovely old one behind. I'm not as depressed about it as I was yesterday but thats because we had a great night last night at Filth which has cheered me up no end. We even managed to win a bottle of "Champagne" (more like shampoo!) without even having to show any skin! I stole one of there crappy plastic shot glasses as well as a Filth momento.
Yesterday was pretty much centered around meeting various people out of exams and doing stuff with them involving pubs, alcohol, ice cream and sun. in the morning however I did take myself of to the Botanic Gardens and I sat and read in the sunshine which was wonderful, it also gave me time to reflect on a few things (which I'm still no closer to sorting but still).
so now I have till Sunday to enjoy Oxford and then I can go home and mourn my loss :(

oh and thanks to everyone that helped me move and to Hannah and Sarah for a great night out.

    Packing
Woke up at 10 and then pottered around for awhile before heading to Jericho with Briony to sort out some stuff for our house next year. Hannah called and we met her at Little Clarendon Street before heading down to town. We scared Hannah by taking her to Games Workshop (she's so innocent!!) and then went to Sainsburys for weekly provisions and the Covered Market for Carnations for James and Harpreet (Good luck to you both).
Had lunch with a few people in James' room and then began to sort out stuff in my room since college are forcing me to move to staircase 21 on Wednesday :( Hannah came to keep me company and we got into a deep discussion about stuff bothering us. At 3 Richard picked us up since we were going to play Croquet (figured I should learn before leaving Oxford) however the lawn had been sprayed with fertiliser and we couldn't play. Instead we played tennis which I'm absolutly crap at and all the bending to retrieve tennis balls has left my belly button very sore :(
I finish as much packing as I could when we got back and in the mean time got quite nostalgic and depressed about leaving Oxford. Anyway just had dinner and later we may go and get a DVD, I guess thats enough for now...

    "Sarah's Wee Beasties"
Friday night saw us heading to an excellent bop hosted by New college, complete with dancing in what could pass as a dungeon and getting covered in foam. A great night all round except for Sarah getting her shoes nicked by some wierd girl!! We stole a water gun in exchange.

I got to bed at about 2.30 and then got up at 8 because Hannah, Anna and I had stupidly booked a washing slot. Went back to bed only to get up again at 9 and then at 10. Finally got myself up and moving at 10.30 and sorted some stuff out for about an hour. Krystyna came down to Balliol to pick me up for piercing at 11.30. We headed down to Tiger Lily with me realising on the way that I'd left all my money and debit card in my room. I had to borrow some cash from Krys (thank you :) in order to pay for my belly button piercing. The piercer was a very nice lady who told me all about what she was going to do, let me not look at the scary needle and let Krys hold my ankle in support. In the end it actually wasn't painful and looks really cool so I'm happy :)

In the afternoon headed over to see my great great wonderful friend [info]chrisvenus
for cookies and cocktails. The wonderful [info]kissifa had organised
Chris's dream night of lots of cute women and cookies. Chris added the
    cocktails bit himself.

Notable dramatis personae include the aforementioned two as well as [info]quisalan, [info]taigne, [info]liriseli and [info]huggyrei for a bit until heading off to some other party that is
    almost certainly not as interesting.

Lots of good films (and the scorpion king as well) were watched. Cocktails
were drunk. Chris hasn't got the hang of mixers very well. It seems chris's idea of a
mixer involves waving a drink near some kind of fruit juice.

Other great highlights include playing on the swings, chris took me
in his car and of course cookies!!!

(by the way Chris wrote that bit, with a little editing from me)

Bri and I walked back at about 2 and I headed to bed.

Woke up this morning and pottered around a bit before getting a call from Hannah to see if I wanted to go strawberry picking. Her friends Selena and Ellie are visiting so she wanted to do something fun and entertaining. We walked to Port Meadow and found the Perch Inn which was very packed but just about still servng food so we stopped for lunch. We went on to the strawberry picking place and got 2 kilos of them, I think we probably ate that much as well. As if that wasn't enough we then stopped at G&D's for a drink on the way back.
Went to Frevds' this evening and had a New England iced tea ( same as Long Island but with cranberry juice instead of coke). They stopped servng shockingly early so we went back to Balliol bar for more drinks and onto Brian's to watch "Romeo and Juliet".

Sarah just popped round and wants me to put a mention about "Sarah's wee beasties" in my LJ, so there you go Sarah :)

    Patrick Stewart!!
Managed an incredible feat earlier by blagging my way into thre Union without being a member. It basically wasn't that difficult since I just used Hannah's card (thanks babe) but I was impressed that we didn't incure the heavy fines promised on the back of the card for fraudulance. Anyway it would have been worth it since Patrick Stewart was great, it was enough for me when he said "Make it so"! He's so cool.
Played Squash with Brian this afternoon, a strange game that I'm not very good at, oh well will just have to get more practice. Not like I don't have the time after all, yay me!

    London, Sweetie Darling
A huge big thankyou to Hannah, Anna and Sarah for a wonderful day out in London yesterday.
    Thank you sweetie darlings....
After getting the oxford tube to Marble Arch we wandered down Oxford Street and spent way too much time (over an hour) in H&M trying on all the dresses. We actually all tried on the same dress at one point and both Anna and I bought it. With H&M purchases in tow we headed down Reagents Street to Hamleys. We managed to get ourselves immortalised in the shop by having our picture taken in a red bus. I think we must've played with almost every toy in there by the time we started to feel a bit hungry at around 2. We went to Momo for a lovely lunch and then walked down to Piccadilly circus. After stoppping at Leicester Square for Ben and Jerrys ice cream we ended up in Covent Garden. More shopping followed before Sarah received a call from College saying she'd passed prelims (well done again Sarah). To celebrate we headed to Belgo for dinner and drinks which was delicious.
Late night shopping once again in Oxford Street yielded further purchases for Hannah and Sarah and then after being literally chucked out of the shop we got the tube to Victoria. We sauntered up to Buckingham palace to have a cup of tea with Liz but sadly although she was in she was not answering the door. We had a lot of fun on the Victoria Memorial and outside the palace gates though and only left when it looked like they might try and arrest us for breaching the peace! (Release the dogs!!)
We arrived back at about 12.30 and went to Hannah's room for a celebratory cup of tea and present opening for Hannah's and Anna's birthdays. Got to bed at about 2 and thats it I guess...

I'm so crap at updating this thing!
Basically since Friday I have been having as much fun as possible. Yay!!
On Monday I spent all day shopping for birthday pressies for Hannah and Anna, not the most successful trip I've ever had but managed to get stuff in the end, hope they like them now. Yesterday I went food shopping in the morning with Hannah, Anna and Sarah, we spent loads of money on things for their birthday picnic in the park. We got back to college at 11 and spent 2 mad hours trying to get everything ready. I made them a giraffe cake which worked really well apart from looking more like a camel!!
We had a lovely lunch in University Parks and then took out a punt from Cherwell boay house. Once again I unsuccessfully tried to punt but ended up trapped in a tree and got a thorn stuck in my shoulder :( Oh well some of us just aren't cut out to punt I guess.
Rushed back to college at 6.30 and grabbed a shower and got changed to go out to Victoriana at 7.30. Chris popped in on his way and came down with us. The last Victoriana session was really fun and we learned loads from the GMs about what the hell has been going on for the past 8 weeks!! We went to the Turl afterwards and met up with a few others including Krystyna, Fraser and Nat. When we got chucked out of the pub we wandered to G&D's on St. Aldates where I suddenly remembered I'd had no dinner and so shared a brownie sundae with Krys.
Came back to Balliol at about 1 and went to see Hannah, Sarah and Valerie who were having a girlie night in watching Bridget Jones Diary. I watched the end of the film with them and went to bed at 2.
This morning I had breakfast with Hannah and Sarah who had been to Sainsburys in their pajamas to buy bagels.
This afternoon I think we will go to Cowley Road for shopping, yay more shopping and then again in London tomorrow, shit I have to stop spending money!!!
